this winter
What we are doing to fall in love with winter.
it’s lighter later and darker earlier. if you live in the pacific northwest, your winters are also grey and likely quite… damp. this isn’t exactly a recipe for feeling bright, energized, and lively. but, we believe that winter can be cozy, warm, sparkly, and magical, too. it’s all about infusing the little parts of your day with warmth, adding a layer beyond the thing itself. it’s not frivolous to “romanticize” — it’s literally winter survival. this winter…
this winter, we are throwing orange peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and rosemary into a pot and letting it simmer all day long. this winter, we are clipping the holly that grows in front of our kitchen window and displaying it in a vase. this winter, we are thrifting vintage christmas decorations, and using “would nana like this?” as our guide. this winter, we are drinking coffee by the orange glow of the fire. this winter, we are calling long-distance friends on a chilly, blustery afternoon walk. this winter, we are drinking champagne with pomegranate. this winter, we are standing quietly in the cold sunlight that momentarily pokes out from behind the grey. this winter, we are wearing red cashmere mittens and chocolate-brown beanies. this winter, we are making fluffy maple marshmallows from scratch. this winter, we are making our morning lattes with eggnog. this winter, we are getting gifts for our dogs’ stockings. this winter, we are making driftwood candle holders. this winter, we are waking before the sun.
this winter, we are intentionally choosing to love this winter.

I’ve always struggled in winter, but I’ve been slowly adding in small rituals and cosy moments over the last few years, and it truly does make all the difference in surviving 🤎 There’s definitely a few from here that I’ll be adding to my list!
Sounds so cozy and nice.
