Last Sunday, we wrote about the Pancake Latte—a new coffee creation of ours that changed our morning beverage game. It is the best of an autumn Sunday morning, the first bite of a fluffy stack of pancakes, the drizzle of warm butter that melts down the sides, and the deep flavor of dark maple syrup. We are forever changed.
Pancakes are a tried-and-true classic… they are hard not to love. But this next baked good is a bit more… sophisticated. It’s like the pancake’s cultured, more mature older sibling. This baked good is the cardamom bun.
Doughy and with a bit of a crunch from the golden crust and carmelized sugar. Not overly sweet and with a balanced hit of cardamom, one of the best spices. A morning delicacy. Why not turn it into a beverage? Meet the Cardamom Bun Latte. In other words, the autumn beverage of our dreams.
Here’s how you make it:
Add one cup of water, one cup of dark brown sugar, and one tablespoon of ground cardamom to a saucepan and bring to a boil. If you have cardamom pods, crack open a couple and throw the seeds in (it will make the syrup extra flavorful). Let this simmer for 15-20 minutes.
You know the syrup is ready when the house begins to smell like a bakery and a spoonful looks like a dark maple syrup. Pour into a jar for storage.
Grab your mug, pull your espresso, add two to three shakes of ground cardamom, and pour in a spoonful or two of the cardamom syrup. Froth the milk of your choice, add a dash of ground cardamom on top, sip, and enjoy.
And there you have it, the Cardamom Bun Latte. Hats off to you if you dip a cardamom bun in it.
Trying this out today
So fun and easy to make. Can't wait.
