a cabin nine kitchen
Our favorite part of the home, in our favorite part of the world.
A kitchen is, arguably, one of the most important spots of a home. It’s a place for congregating, connecting, sharing stories and, of course, food. It is the beating heart of a home.
Every kitchen is different, but you can feel a good one. You can smell the lingering scents of spices, you can trace the nicks and dents in the well-worn counters, and there is a sense of openness that serves as an invitation.
Kitchens, like every other part of a home, are influenced by the surrounding place. The window made specifically to overlook the sea in the distance, the shelving to hold the vegetables from the garden or the farmer’s market, the wooden beaming to match the trunks of the evergreens in the backyard. The environment and the locale create an experience, too.
This letter is an ode to our ideal Pacific Northwest kitchen—our favorite part of the home, in our favorite part of the world.
At first glance. Heating elements like a wood-burning stove or a fireplace to bring warmth into the room. Rustic, open shelving with lots of space for ceramic bowls and plates, jars of preserves or ferments, and vases of wild flowers. An open layout, designed to be a place for informal gathering. Lots of windows to bring light into the room, even on a typical overcast PNW day. A combination of hardwood floors and thick wool rugs, suitable to fuzzy house slippers on a brisk winter day or bare feet on a breezy summer day.
The cozy corners: A big farmhouse sink for washing freshly-picked apples. A windowsill for cooling pies (pumpkin this time of year). A coffee station with all of the fixings to make your mornings a still, sacred time. Shelves for recipe books, passed down, stained, and loved. A stove simmering with potpourri and a kettle steaming.
And that’s it—our Cabin Nine kitchen dream. <3

I love the idea of the kitchen as the "beating heart of the home", it's so true. Where everyone naturally gravitates to, a place of warmth and camaraderie.
Everything about this is amazing
